Science provides a foundation for modern life, but a broad view of cultural evolution reveals science to be very unusual, very recent, and very fragile. David Sloan Wilson interviews Robert N. McCauley, Director of Emory University’s Center for Mind, Brain, and Culture, on the basis of his book Why Religion is Natural and Science is Not (Oxford University Press 2011). The interview was conducted while both were attending the Ernst Strugmann Forum on cultural evolution in May 2012.
