We are sad to report that TVOL has lost one of its topic editors, Rafe Sagarin, who was killed while riding his bicycle. Rafe was trained as a marine ecologist but like so many evolutionary scientists, he transcended disciplinary boundaries with ease. He authored two books: Observation and Ecology: Broadening the Scope of Science to Understand a Complex World (with Anibal Pauchard) and Learning from the Octopus: How Secrets from Nature Can Help Us Understand Terrorist Attacks, Natural Disasters, and Disease. One of his ongoing projects was to transform the 700,000 gallon ocean biome at the biosphere 2 closed ecosystem into a living model of the Gulf of California.Rafe joined TVOL at its inception (see my introduction interview with him) and the articles that he wrote are listed below. He will be missed.
