Seminar and Discussion Forum
Abstract:
Evolutionary science is increasingly providing a theoretical framework for positive change efforts across all scales and topic domains. A single book--Prosocial: Using Evolutionary Science to Build Productive, Equitable, and Collaborative Groups (Atkins, Wilson and Hayes 2019) has been influential in the cultural diffusion of the evolutionary paradigm. This seminar and discussion forum will present an analysis of articles that cite the book as itself a case study of cultural evolution. Ample time will be allowed for discussion on how the cultural evolution of the evolutionary paradigm can be further catalyzed.
About the Speaker:
Fabio Bento
Associate Professor,
Oslo Metropolitan University
Fabio’s research focuses learning and change in different kinds of social groups. He has developed an interest in applying concepts from complexity science such as emergence, interactions, and feedback loops to understand how change takes place and can be facilitated in different organizational settings such schools, higher education institution, public sector and oil & gas industry. His fascination for complex systems derives from his interest in understanding the spaces of interactions from which our common future is constantly being re-constructured. Much of his academic work lies in the intersection of complexity science with behavioral sciences. In recent years, he has incorporated social network analysis as a of way exploring how behavior spreads in rather intricate webs of interaction. Bearing this in mind, webs of academic publication can be seen as evolving and self-organizing networks of ideas and projects. Mapping such networks throughout bibliometric analysis helps us identifying unexplored spaces for cooperation and potential risk, and to discuss possible future developments in knowledge production.
