In the 51st session of Examined Lives, Andy Norman will lead an exploration of the work of the late Daniel Dennett
Daniel Dennett (1942-2024) had an enormous influence on philosophy, the sciences, and the larger culture. A philosopher, Dan grasped the enormous explanatory power of Darwin’s Dangerous Idea. He applied this idea systematically and guided the fledging cognitive sciences toward deeper, more naturalistic understandings of consciousness and free will. His book Breaking the Spell gave millions a new way of looking at religion. But what does his work mean to you? Which of his books and articles, talks and conversations inspired you? Did any of his arguments change the way you think? Join us for a group reminiscence of a towering intellect and—for many of us—beloved friend.
